Description
This report presents the findings of the second fact-finding mission to Tseel soum, Gobi Altai aimag, Mongolia in August 2014. The mission follows an earlier trip to the region in March 2014 to assess the environmental and social impacts of the Tayan Nuur iron ore mine, which is operated by the Mongolian mining company Altain Khuder. Altain Khuder received debt and equity financing from the EBRD. The fact-finding team consisted of four civil society organizations, which conducted interviews with stakeholders in Tseel soum and Ulaanbaatar. The fact-finding mission heard testimonies from approximately 25 individual stakeholder about a number of serious environmental and social impacts related to the Tayan Nuur mine and its surroundings.
