Romani Electoral Politics and Behaviour
Publisher: Journal on Ethnopolitics and Minority Issues in Europe Volume: 13 pages, pdf Description: After a decade of effort, the Roma remain grossly underrepresented in local and national political bodies. However, the relatively small number of elected Romani officials does not accurately reflect the substantial increase of Gypsy presence in East European politics. This article discusses the problems that impede the Roma’s electoral achievements, examines the relations between Gypsy and mainstream political organizations, and briefly investigates Romani voting behaviour and electoral results.
