The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has prepared this Country Information Report for protection status determination purposes only. It provides DFAT’s best judgement and assessment at time of writing and is distinct from Australian government policy with respect to Turkey.
The report provides a general, rather than an exhaustive country overview. It has been prepared with regard to the current caseload for decision makers in Australia without reference to individual applications for protection visas. The report does not contain policy guidance for decision makers.
This report draws upon on DFAT’s on-the-ground knowledge and discussions with a range of sources in Turkey. It takes into account relevant open source reports from government and non-government sources, including (but not limited to) those produced by the United Nations and its agencies, the US State Department, the World Bank, Transparency International, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Freedom House, Reporters Without Borders, the Committee to Protect Journalists, and local and
international media. Where DFAT does not refer to a specific source of a report or allegation, this may be to protect the source.
