Description
Establishing appropriate policies regarding emigration and the status of the Kosovar Diaspora are of key importance for stimulating growth reducing macroeconomic imbalances in Kosova. With appropriate policies and incentives, the Diaspora could contribute more effectively, both in terms of human capital and financial resources, to economic growth and job creation in Kosova. This report provides information about the Diaspora and highlights challenges and opportunities for improving the Diaspora’s participation in Kosova’s economic and social advancement. Among the areas addressed are: the size and socio-economic profile of the Diaspora; current contribution through remittances, investment, contributions in kind, Diaspora “tourism”; organization of Kosovar institutions vis-à-vis the Diaspora and the extent to which they address their needs and interests; which policies should be implemented to increase the positive impacts of social, human and financial contributions of the Diaspora; and appropriate emigration policies that would be consistent with current socio-economic conditions as well as with expected developments in the EU integration processes and EU labour market.
