“VOTERS’ VOICE” The Issues Voters Demand Their Government Address
Publisher: Kosovo Women's Network (KWN), Kosovo Date: 2009 Volume: 41 pages, pdf Description Parliamentary elections held in November 2007 were conducted with an open-list system. This provided citizens with the opportunity to cast their ballots for individuals and not only political parties. The new system makes it possible for citizens to monitor and hold politicians accountable for promises made during the pre-electoral campaign. However, to date, politicians have tended to be more accountable to international decision-makers than to the citizens who elected them. Citizens need information, mechanisms, and support to monitor the work of politicians and to advocate for elected officials to address their priorities.
